Furthermore, this healthcare issue is not limited to poor eyesight. THere are various common eye disorders that can be associated with lack of healthcare access and information.

Trachoma is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis. The infection causes a roughening of the inner surface of the eyelids. This roughening can lead to pain in the eyes, breakdown of the outer surface or cornea of the eyes, and eventual blindness.
Onchocerciasis, also known as river blindness, is a disease caused by infection with the parasitic worm Onchocerca volvulus. Symptoms include severe itching, bumps under the skin, and blindness. It is the second-most common cause of blindness due to infection, after trachoma.
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a problem with your retina. It happens when a part of the retina called the macula is damaged. With AMD you lose your central vision. You cannot see fine details, whether you are looking at something close or far. But your peripheral (side) vision will still be normal. For instance, imagine you are looking at a clock with hands. With AMD, you might see the clock’s numbers but not the hands.
Refractive error happens when an eye is misshapen, preventing successful refraction. Uncorrected refractive error is when we don't do anything about it. Refraction is when the eye bends light so that it can pass through the sections of your eye; the cornea, the lens, and eventually the retina.
Corneal opacity is a disorder of the cornea. The cornea is the transparent structure on the front of the eyeball. Corneal opacity occurs when the cornea becomes scarred. This stops light from passing through the cornea to the retina and may cause the cornea to appear white or clouded over.
A cataract is a dense, cloudy area that forms in the lens of the eye. A cataract begins when proteins in the eye form clumps that prevent the lens from sending clear images to the retina. sTRONGER LIGHTNING AND GLASSES CAN HELP DEAL WITH CATARACTS.
Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that damage the optic nerve, the health of which is vital for good vision. This damage is often caused by abnormally high pressure in your eye.

beauty through the lens will partner with PROJECT SAFETY NETS TO COLLECT NEW AND GENTLY USED PRESCRIPTION, READING, AND SUNGLASSES. tHESE DONATIONS WILL BE SENT TO RECIPIENTS IN SENEGAL, WEST AFRICA IN A WELL PACKAGED BOX THAT WILL ALSO INCLUDE INFORMATION ABOUT PROPER EYECARE.
